Having Room for Zoom – Top Tips for Making the Most of Your Day

Having Room for Zoom – Top Tips for Making the Most of Your Day

March 10, 2021

One of the issues with working from home is that all your meetings are now on a virtual platform, such as Zoom, and it is not always easy to have ample space to undertake these calls. You may have children running around, clutter that you can’t seem to keep up with or extremely noisy neighbours. It is certainly not easy to find the right space or time for your virtual calls, but these are some tips for making the most of your space, and your working day.

Structure Your Day

The first thing to establish is a structure within your day. You should have specific hours for your work and time for your personal schedule. If you have a call scheduled, make sure you undertake this during your scheduled business hours. It is important that you don’t let the two spill over, as before you know it, there is no end to your working day! If you are currently home-schooling, make sure you set boundaries. Work when the children are doing their schoolwork and make sure they know they can’t interrupt you. All the small interruptions can easily create havoc on your working day.

Create a Space

Most people don’t have the luxury of extra rooms to set up as office space, and this can make it difficult to find a designated space to undertake virtual calls. It is important to have your own space to work in, and to make it as comfortable as possible. You may want to set your desk up in your living room or create a space on your dining table. In some cases, people have been setting up cupboards and sheds as an office space. You may even want to consider setting up an office space in your garden, using all the money you are saving from your daily commutes! It doesn’t really matter where it is, as long as it is nice and comfortable.

Reduce Clutter

It can be difficult to create a space for your virtual calls, or even somewhere you feel comfortable, if you have a lot of clutter in your home. A good way to counteract this is to buy lots of storage, such as boxes and baskets. The last thing you really want your colleagues to see is a desk with overflowing paperwork, and it’s certainly not fun to be wading through piles of paperwork to find what you are looking for!

Get Inspired!

If you are struggling to feel productive when working remotely, it is time to get inspired! Some ways to feel inspired during your working day are, putting on your favourite music or inspiring podcasts, surrounding yourself with photos of family and friends, plants and even some positive quotes. If you have some favourite colours, make sure these are visible on your workspace. It is your workspace, and it is important to make it as welcoming and comfortable as possible. Working remotely isn’t easy, but you have the benefit of setting your space up exactly the way you want.
