After the success of last year’s Charity Golf Day, where we raised an incredible £7003 for the Devizes Opportunity Centre, we are thrilled to announce we will be supporting yet another fantastic charity for 2019’s Charity Golf Day.

Wiltshire Mind, a charity that works towards providing a better life for people struggling with mental illness, is a remarkable organisation that relies solely on charitable donations; the money we raise for them on the day will go a long way in helping them continue to provide the fantastic services they do.

On Tuesday we met with Carolyn Beale, Chief Executive of Wiltshire Mind, to discuss the services that Wiltshire Mind provide, and why they were our charity of choice.

As well as their Core Services, including support groups and 1-1 counselling, they also offer training courses for businesses, from Mental Health Awareness to Mental Health First Aid. In February of this year, Wiltshire Mind launched their Young Peoples Service aimed at children aged 13+, already reaching full capacity, proving the growing need for these services.

Why are these services important?

During our visit, we learned that annually, the UK loses £105bn from the economy due to lost working hours because of mental illness. But even when you put the monetary aspect to one side, Wiltshire Mind’s goal of providing friendly, safe places where anyone at risk of or experiencing mental health issues can find the support and respect they need and deserve, is a goal everyone should be able to get behind.

Despite the estimation that in Wiltshire around 60,000 people are living with common mental disorders, Wiltshire has one of the lowest mental health budgets – in 2016, only 0.6% of the total Wiltshire NHS budget was allocated to mental health services.

There are 160 independent Mind charities across the UK – all of which receive no budget allocation from the national Mind organisation and are completely independently funded.

We are very excited to be supporting Wiltshire Mind, with all money raised from this year’s Charity Golf Day going straight to the charity. If you’re a business owner and would like to register a team to our Golf Day, you can do so here.
