With uncertainties around Brexit and employment at an all-time high, we’re not denying that it’s tough to be a recruiter right now. But that's why it’s rewarding when we expand at the rate we do. In 2018 alone, we have added 10 new brilliant members of staff to the CMD team across our 4 offices.
Our team is a strong mix of professionals from all walks of life, with varying experience and qualifications. But one thing’s for certain; they allow us to provide the best service to our clients across the South West. Whether they hold 10-years’ experience and come to us with many qualifications or are just beginning their career in recruitment and are trained up by our more experienced Consultants. We like to prove there are several routes to employment, each as valid as the other and by working with the right team, you can develop a job into a career.
Our newest starters have gone into 2 of our offices, with Lewis joining our Melksham office and Helen assisting our growing team in Bath.
We asked them to tell us a bit about their recruitment experience, what it was that attracted them to the industry and why they chose a career with CMD Recruitment.
How long have you been working at CMD Recruitment and how did you find your first day/week?
Lewis: I have been working for CMD for a mere two weeks and have already cemented many friendly and professional rapports with my colleagues. From day one I have been warmly welcomed into a team determined to support each other.
Helen: I started a week ago, the first week flew by but loving it so far!
What were you doing before you joined CMD?
Lewis: Prior to joining CMD, I was a Branch Assistant Manager for the largest car-rental company in the world.
Helen: I was working for another recruitment agency as a resourcer.
What is your educational experience?
Lewis: I read and achieved a 1:1 (82%) in a business-related degree; whereby all applications and case-studies were related to the sporting industry (a much more interesting way of studying business).
Helen: I studied Media at college, before moving into administrative roles.
What attracted you to the Recruitment industry?
Lewis: I went to university in the hope that one of my course-models would inspire my career. In truth, the inspiration came from a part-time job (which turned full-time) with the University; whereby I initially managed an online jobs platform for employers to post their roles (grad schemes, placements, internships etc) to students/graduates.
This role exploded into a 360-consultant role which involved me sourcing opportunities and then placing candidates into roles. Since, I have always wanted to facilitate the recruitment process for candidates and clients alike.
Helen: I did a temporary role over 6 years ago within an agency and really enjoyed it.
How are you getting on with your new team?
Lewis: I feel I have settled quickly here at CMD and look forward to learning more about my team, candidates and clients. What’s so great about CMD is the desire for CPD – I’ve been here two weeks and I’m already looking forward to completing my first qualification in recruitment, which CMD are funding!
Helen: We are a smaller team in Bath but its great getting stuck in to get things up and running in the new office.
What new skills/techniques/processes have you learnt since joining CMD?
Lewis: Within two weeks I have already gained a detailed understanding of the effective processes and techniques used here at CMD, which is a testament towards the training provided by staff here at CMD.
Helen: It’s still early days but getting adequate training on the systems has been a great start!!
What’s been your favourite moment since you started at CMD Recruitment?
Lewis: Too hard to specify a moment yet, but I’m enjoying every bit so far.
Helen: Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming!
If you had to sum up CMD in one sentence, what would it be?
Lewis: CMD is a family that values virtues such as merit, passion and determination while providing a first-class service to clients and first-class working environment.
Helen: CMD have an excellent reputation within the area and I am excited to be a part of that!
